All but two of Japan’s 50 reactors had to be closed in the wake of the disaster in March 2011, which forced 160,000 people from their homes, many of whom are unlikely to be able to return for decades. It was, the worst nuclear crisis since the Chernobyl accident in Ukraine in 1986.
There were no Japanese deaths caused by radiation exposure, while approximately 18,500 people died due to the earthquake and tsunami. Future cancer deaths from accumulated radiation exposures in the population living near Fukushima are predicted to be extremely low to none.
But. Here in the United States environmental experts are predicting 13,000 American children will die because of that Japanese disaster. Hard to believe, doncha think?
