Can’t We All Just Get Along?
The Russians have given us a dis-invitation to keep our democracy supporting USAID organization in their territory after October 1. Seems that Vladimir Putin has alleged that protests surrounding his reelection were orchestrated by US funded non-governmental organizations. USAID has spent more than $3 billion dollars on “democracy” and other programs in Russian over the last two decades.
So after being told to get out by October 1st, US State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland announced that we’re leaving.but that “We remain committed to supporting democracy, human rights and the development of more robust civil society in Russia and look forward to continuing our cooperation with Russian nongovernmental organizations”
USAID was due to spend $50 million on its work on a wide range of human rights programmes this year.
Thats all fine and well but the question remains: Is the American government under the guise of giving aid to Russia instead undermining the work of the duly elected government there? And to carry the question a step further is this any way to firm the friendship that has been growing haltingly but never the less growing since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Russia and the U.S working together may be the only hope for a world menaced by the implacable and perhaps unstoppable Me, Me only Me Chinese eating machine.
